Recently local Western New York volunteer firefighters were recognized nationally by Polaris for their efforts during the November Snowstorm in Buffalo, NY! Team Polaris swept the Blue Water Desert Challenge this weekend in Primm, Nevada! Congratulations to Brandon Schueler of Jagged X for the win and to Branden Simms/Lone Star Racing and Scott Kiger/Coastal Racing for rounding out the podium.

While this year’s Most Mileage Contest is in full swing, last year’s winner Chris stopped by our showroom recently to check out the latest Waverunners and redeem his prize for being crowned 2013’s Most Mileage Contest winner. Chris had bought his 2013 Yamaha FX HO in August of last year and in one short month put over 51 hours on his new ride, earning him the winning title and the $150 prize. This year he plans on bringing his brand new 2014 Yamaha Waverunner down to Key West to enjoy a change of scenery and possibly earn some more bragging rights.

Last month students from the University at Buffalo Engineering program participated in the Michigan Technological University Clean Snowmobile Challenge and won second place in the internal combustion division, the Sensors Inc. Award for Lowest In-Service Emissions, the AVL Award for Best Emissions with its biodiesel-powered snowmobile, and the NGK Spark Plugs/NTK Sensors Cold Start Award!
Most sleds ran on an undisclosed cocktail of gasoline and isobutanol, a biofuel made from corn. UB was one of the few successful entries who used a biodiesel blend.
Advances like these are critical to the future of snowmobiling, said Art Jeffers, acting forest supervisor of the Huron-Manistee National Forest, who represented the US Forest Service at the Challenge. “Snowmobile emissions and noise reduction are central to the free enjoyment of public lands and to minimizing user conflict,” he said. “The snowmobiling industry and the clubs have made great strides, and with their sponsorship, the Challenge has been a great way to move the technology forward.”
The Clean Snowmobile Challenge is sponsored at Michigan Tech by the Keweenaw Research Center and the Department of Mechanical Engineering–Engineering Mechanics. For more information on the Challenge, see www.mtu.edu/snowmobile.

Back in January Appolson’s sponsored a homeless pet that had been at the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter for a while and was looking for his forever home. This past weekend we learned that Gavin has finally been adopted!
